The Caress of Steel Tour saw Rush fully embracing their progressive rock ambitions. The set list leaned heavily into their experimental third album, boldly featuring both of its demanding, sprawling epics: "The Necromancer" and, reputedly performed on a couple of nights, "The Fountain of Lamneth." To balance out these massive, complex pieces, the band introduced punchier new tracks like "Bastille Day" and "Lakeside Park," alongside the quirky, straightforward rocker "I Think I'm Going Bald." While they were aggressively challenging audiences with this dense new material, they kept crowds grounded by retaining early staples like "Anthem," an abridged "By-Tor & the Snow Dog," and the reliable, heavy-hitting anchor of "Working Man."
