For the Fly By Night Tour, with Neil Peart now firmly established as the band's drummer and primary lyricist, Rush's set list began its distinct pivot toward progressive rock. While still delivering reliable heavy-hitters from their debut like "Finding My Way," "In the Mood," and the essential "Working Man," the band aggressively showcased their newly refined sound. Intricate new tracks like "Anthem," "Beneath, Between, & Behind," and the dynamic "In The End" demonstrated their rapid musical evolution. Most notably, the set featured an abridged version of "By-Tor & the Snow Dog." This marked the band's very first live foray into the multi-part, fantasy-driven epics that would come to define them, even if being a supporting act often necessitated cutting the song short. Despite this ambitious forward momentum, they still kept a slight nod to their bar-band past by retaining the Larry Williams cover "Bad Boy" during some of their earlier dates.
