In an Orion city, D’Vana Tendi and D’Erika Tendi infiltrate a Blue Orion facility. But they’re cornered by a guard. However, he’s crushed by a wingslug roll dropped by D’Erika, revealing it’s just a hologram. Their mother, Shonda Tendi, arrives and tells them it’s time for bed. But D’Vana suspects something is wrong with D’Erika. D’Erika refuses to allow D’Vana to scan her with a medical tricorder, making D’Vana suspicious.
On the Cerritos, Carol Freeman records a captain’s log for stardate 59376.9. The Cerritos has reached Targalas IX, a recent Federation addition. They’ve just acquired post-scarcity tech and are now removing obsolete capitalist systems. This has resulted in a planet-wide celebration, since most Targalans have embraced the change.
Bradward Boimler is leading an away team and issuing them “Bointers.” Beckett Mariner arrives and gently mocks Boimler’s mustache. Mariner asks where Boimler got the “Bointers” from. Boimler says he read a “biography” of someone with a lot of confidence that inspired him. Mariner says he should be the fun boss and let them enjoy the planet’s party. Boimler agrees and gives his away team an hour off. Mariner is surprised but pleased.
On Orion, D’Vana sneaks into D’Erika’s room and accesses her personal log. She soon discovers that her sister is pregnant. D’Vana is overjoyed. But then she’s almost caught by D’Erika. D’Vana makes a lame excuse. D’Erika says she has some big news. But the news is that they’ve been summoned before the Orion Pirate Queen, who isn’t happy about the war with the Blue Orion.
Aboard the Cerritos in Repair Bay Five, T’Lyn arrives and asks Samanthan Rutherford for help learning how to repair the shuttle. Rutherford reluctantly agrees.
In the Pirate Queen’s chamber, she says the war between House Tendi and House Azure is preventing new booty from flowing into their coffers. Azure again asserts that Tendi used un-Orion tactics. The Queen says when they pillage each other, it hurts all of them. So to resolve the issue, they’ll participate in the ancient tradition of a sailship race. D’Erika is confident but D’Vana is worried about her pregnant sister. The loser will be removed from the Syndicate and their wealth transferred to the winner. Outside, D’Vana insists she can command the ship. But D’Erika says she can handle it. D’Vana insists they be extra careful, to D’Erika’s chagrin.![]()

On Targalas, Boimler’s away team is missing. Jack Ransom asks for a report. But Boimler interrupts before Mariner can share the news of the missing team. Mariner says Boimler isn’t acting like himself. But Boimler insists they should be heading to the rendezvous point.
Elsewhere, the sailing race begins. D’Vana continues to worry over D’Erika’s condition. D’Erika is not receptive. On the Cerritos in Repair Bay Five, Rutherford is shocked to see T’Lyn has begun making repairs on the shuttle herself. Rutherford is reluctant to allow T’Lyn to do this, although she is competent to do so.
On Targalas, Boimler and Mariner navigate the parties and spot Boimler’s team. They’re being kidnapped by an elitist terrorist cell. Mariner informs Ransom of the situation and he’s unsurprised. But with everyone occupied elsewhere on the planet, Ransom says Mariner and Boimler will have to deal with the situation themselves.
In the midst of the sailing race, D’Vana continues to attempt to care for D’Erika. But the Blue Orions begin to fire upon the Tendi’s ship. Concerned about D’Erika’s condition, D’Vana leverages her status as the Mistress of the Winter Constellations to convince the crew to have a “gentle, supportive mutiny” against D’Erika.
On Targalas, Boimler and Mariner follow the rich kidnappers to their mansion. The kidnappers have strapped weapons to their household robots and are using them for guards. But our heroes are soon taken at gunpoint by the gardener robot. On the sailing ship, D’Erika escapes and prepares to take action. D’Vana reveals she knows D’Erika is pregnant. However, the Blue Orions have incapacitated their vessel, which crash lands on an asteroid.
In the mansion on Targalas, Mariner and Boimler and put into a holding cell by the gardener. Inside, they find Boimler’s away team, apparently dead. On the asteroid, it seems impossible to relaunch the sailing ship. Soon the Blues are flying past with the treasure at the end of the race. D’Vana and D’Erika argue over D’Erika’s pregnancy.
But it turns out D’Erika had revealed her pregnancy to everyone else. The subterfuge was to prevent D’Vana from having to stay and train the new Mistress of the Winter Constellations. D’Erika was protecting D’Vana, not the other way around. D’Vana comes up with a plan. With a tractor beam, D’Vana hauls the sailing ship back into action using a passing meteor.
On the Cerritos, Rutherford is horrified to discover T’Lyn has completely repaired the shuttle in Repair Bay Five. Rutherford says he was trying to slow roll the repairs so it would be there to work on with Tendi when she returned. T’Lyn reveals she was attempting to deceive Rutherford into socializing using the shuttle repair. But she says she should not have imposed. Rutherford says if Tendi does return, they can find something else to work on.
In the Targalas cell, Boimler and Mariner attempt to resurrect the away team. The rich kidnappers panic and flee without helping the Starfleet officers. But the away team soon regains consciousness. They reveal their apparent deaths were a subterfuge using the effects of local fauna. Boimler says they can request emergency medical transport to return to the Cerritos. But the away team just wants to return to the party.
House Tendi’s solar sailship is approaching the Blues. They overtake them and board their ship, stealing the booty. D’Vana destroys the treasure and says it’s a tie. But the Queen isn’t pleased. They both lose, and both houses will have their fortunes confiscated. However, D’Vana’s parents are just happy the family remains intact. Meanwhile, D’Erika says D’Vana should return to Starfleet.
On the Cerritos, Rutherford is startled by Tendi’s return. She says she can’t wait to work on the shuttle. Rutherford stumbles over excuses. But in Repair Bay Five, T’Lyn has destroyed the shuttle. They’ll all be able to repair it together. When D’Vana discovers that the Cerritos has a lot of treasure aboard from Targalas, she suggests House Tendi be hired as the official treasure disposal service.
