Onboard the U.S.S. Enterprise, the crew have gathered in the recreation lounge to celebrate First Contact Day. Lieutenant Hemmer was asked to emcee the event by the Captain, however the engineer felt Mr. Spock would make a better choice to handle the entertainment given the holiday celebrates the first interaction between humans Vulcans. Though Spock believes the best entertainment is meditating on how to quietly eradicate all emotions, he realizes the majority would prefer something else, even something as unpalatable as comedy. To this end, Spock has formed a 'blooper reel' which he feels would serve the occasion adequately.
Unfortunately, the Vulcan's idea of 'bloopers' is anything but. His first video shows an unfortunate transporter accident which severs a crewman in half. Spock posits this is funny because the crewman normally does have legs. A shocked audience have no words other than Uhura stating "Uhh, Spock. No." Realizing his error, and that the next few clips contain much of the same content, he moves on to another clip where T'Pring announces she is leaving him and their marriage is off. Though he's in tears, Spock proclaims this clip is funny because it is self-deprecating.
Once again, this blooper reel doesn't sit well with the crew so he moves on to the next clip, assuring them "this one is good." The clip shows Captain Georgiou with Saru, apparently aboard the Shenzou during the Battle of the Binary Stars, witnessing the collision of a Klingon and Federation vessel which led to the deaths of over 6,000 Federation souls. The clip ends with the rolling of an 'In Memoriam' list of the dead. Spock announces this is a 'Big, big blooper' and, logically, if small misfortunes are funny, bigger misfortunes should elicit bigger laughs. Uhura corrects Spock and informs him of the true nature of bloopers; stating they "...should be small, like walking into a door. Or mispronouncing 'Spock' as 'Spork.'
Spock makes one last attempt by showing a clip of a crewman in intestinal distress running down a corridor, slipping on the freshly mopped floor and colliding groin-first into the mop handle. The crew reacts in laughter and applause, claiming this final clip was perfect. To extend the humor, Spock announces it's time for a Live Blooper by picking up a mop and heading towards an alarmed Hemmer who frantically says "Spock...No!".![]()
